For four weeks, students researched Shawnee's past, better understanding how it impacts Shawnee today. Why do people move to Shawnee? Why do people work in Shawnee? What did Shawnee used to be like? How has Shawnee changed over time? What drives people to want to live in Shawnee? What does it mean to be a responsible citizen to your community?
Through research and interviews, students were able to gain a better understanding of their community, Shawnee. Students created movies to demonstrate what they learned. Students also learned how they could make a difference by learning about September 11th hero, Welles Crowther, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welles_Crowther They learned how he sacrificed his life to save others. Crowther always carried a red bandanna. Students passed out a red bandanna with nice notes asking others to pay it forward while on their walk to various individuals. Students learned how they could make a difference regardless of their age. |
